Founded July 6, 2017, Melanin and Motherhood, focuses on centering Black mothers and birth outcomes, through advocacy and SMC Full Circle Doula Services .
Our SMC Full Circle Doula Services include prenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum support.
Our Afrocentric and wholistic model of care is derived from the African American "Granny Midwives" of the 20th Century. We pay homage to their legacy and honor our African roots.

Additionally, you will find educational materials discussing the disparities in Black maternal health.
Through the lens of social justice, we advocate for equality, equitable access to healthcare, and medical care rendered to Black women free of discrimination based on race.
We advocate for, and support legislation and medical protocols designed to ensure high quality and uncompromising medical care, as a means to combat the disproportionality of the disparities in maternal health, including Black maternal morbidity, mortality, preterm birth and Black infant mortality.
While our mission is to center and uplift Black mothers, we are pleased to provide services to all mothers!
